Since it's inception, one of the pillar on which NSDC was built are the Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), which play a vital role in bridging the gap between what the industry wants and what the skilling curriculum ought to be.
The National Occupational Standard is one of the most significant contribution of NSDC to India's skilling ecosystem - something that was made possible by the SSCs, which are national partnership organizations that bring together all the stakeholders - industry, labour and the academia. The SSCs operate as autonomous body. It could be registered as a Sec 25 Co, or Public Limited Co. Its Funding is initially done by the government. As the government grows, the SSCs become self-funded, for-profit organizations.
w.e.f January 9, 2018, the power and authority of SSSDC has been withdrawn. MEPSC shall now be operating as the Assessment and Certification Body in respect of Security Sector.
